From Battered Pine to Beautiful: A Bedside Locker Transformation

At Allie Mae Paints, we love giving tired, forgotten furniture a fresh start — and this little project is a wonderful example of how a simple makeover can completely transform a piece.

This old pine bedside locker arrived at our workshop looking battered and worn, with scratches and dull wood that had definitely seen better days. But with a bit of care (and a lot of creativity), one of our talented team members, Mary, turned it into something truly special.

The Process

Preparation:
The locker was first thoroughly sanded down. This removed the old finish, smoothed out imperfections, and provided a clean surface for the new paint to adhere beautifully.

🎨 Painting:                                                                                                                     Mary chose Autentico’s Poison Dart, a vibrant green that adds warmth and character to the piece. Two coats of Autentico Versante Matt provided rich, even coverage while allowing the subtle details of the woodwork to shine through.

🌿 Finishing Touches:
The natural pine top was left bare and varnished, creating a beautiful contrast with the painted body while adding durability. The bedside knobs were carefully sanded back and varnished to complement the pine top perfectly.

The Result

What was once a forgotten, battered locker is now a statement piece — fresh, vibrant, and ready to be loved again in its new home.

This project shows how a little creativity and the right products can bring old furniture back to life. If you’re feeling inspired, why not try your own upcycling project? We’re always happy to offer advice on colours, techniques, and finishes!
